AUBURN – School officials will create a new master plan for the city’s dozen school buildings, and Auburn residents are invited to help.

The school system is now forming a master plan committee to look at school facilities and plan at least five years into the future. Members will help decide whether some schools will be closed or replaced, and which buildings will be renovated.

The school system created its last master plan in 1998. It called for the closing of the Franklin Alternative School and major renovations to several elementary schools. Some of those plans were realized, including the elementary school renovations. But since so many other plans have changed, including the continuation of Franklin and the building of a completely new Lake Street Elementary, officials decided it was time to update the entire master plan. The master plan committee is now being formed and will be composed of school officials, city officials and residents.

Residents who want to be considered for the group should call School Committee Chairwoman Kathy Constantine at 782-5394 or Superintendent Barbara Eretzian at 784-6431.
