AUBURN – The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston is offering a lifeguard certification course on the following dates: Feb. 21 (prerequisite), Feb. 28, March 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21 and 24. Combined classroom and pool time is from 6:30 to 10 p.m. for each class. The course will be taught by Vicki Whorton-Goodman, a certified lifeguard instructor through the American Red Cross.

There are several prerequisites for the course, including a 500-yard swim and a minimum age of 15. Upon completion, the lifeguard certification and first aid are good for three years, while the CPR expires after one year.

The fee is $200, including materials. Class size is limited to eight. Those interested can register at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA, 62 Turner St. Anyone wanting more information can call Chris Shea at 795-4095 or visit the YMCA.
