After reading an article (Feb. 9) about the Kingfield Planning Board’s meeting on Feb. 7, I would like to add several comments;

In discussing the January meeting where the town residents met with representatives of Nestle Waters Co., I noted that I felt residents on the West Kingfield Road seemed relieved when they were told that water would be piped directly from a wellhead, rather than having 40 trucks per day on their road.

The discussion of the board in our meeting on Feb. 7 summarized the January meeting as an initial conversation between Nestle Waters and town residents, nothing more. Nestle was informing the town of its interest in our water resource, and informing us that they would like to look more closely at it, with the intent of pumping water. There is also the possibility of a bottling plant within our town. As they have not yet conducted enough studies to conclude that any of it is yet possible, nothing is a sure thing.

As representatives of the town, it is the Planning Board’s responsibility to ensure that we investigate thoroughly the impact of endeavors being proposed by Nestle Waters prior to granting any change of use permits within our borders. We do not take this responsibility lightly. We begin this process with an open mind. We will utilize professional assistance available to us, we welcome public input, and will give our thoughtful consideration to proposals before reaching any conclusions and granting any permits.
