AUGUSTA – Maine credit unions announced that the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger had another record-setting year.
The campaign raised $215,743.70 to help end hunger in Maine, the second consecutive year that the drive has topped the $200,000 fund-raising mark. Last year $209,035.75 was raised.
The campaign has raised and distributed more than $1.75 million since it began in 1990.
Gov. John Baldacci, at the ceremony, said, “Maine credit unions have a special relationship with the people of Maine and their involvement and dedication with ending hunger in Maine is indicative of that relationship. Credit unions are special and the success of this campaign underscores the values of credit unions. The cause of ending hunger has a special friend in credit unions and, on behalf of the people of Maine, I want to say thank you.”
Seventy-five of the 76 credit unions, members, staff and directors, as well as eight credit union chapters in the state, participated in the campaign.
