JAY – A Jay couple has been charged with trafficking marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school after police found marijuana and other drugs in a search of their residence Friday, the police chief said.

Jay police arrested Clifford Adams, 56, and Lili Adams, 45, on Friday night after conducting a search of their house at 8 School Bus Road, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

The husband and wife each were charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, White said.

The Adamses each posted $1,000 cash bail Friday and were released from Franklin County jail in Farmington, an intake worker said Saturday. They are scheduled to appear March 23 in 12th District Court in Farmington.

Jay police conducted an investigation after receiving information about possible drug trafficking at the Adams residence, White said.

Detective Roderick Small obtained a search warrant for the residence, located less then 1,000 feet from a public school, White said.

“Marijuana and other drugs and drug paraphernalia, and a substantial amount of cash were confiscated at the residence,” White said.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency also assisted in the investigation and arrests, White said. White said another arrest might be made in connection with the case. He declined to release more information until the investigation is completed.
