LEWISTON – A surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration was held on Sept. 5 to honor Paul and Constance Brochu of Lewiston. The event was planned by the children and grandchildren of the couple, Jeane Jandreau, David Brochu and his daughter, Krysty, and Daniel and Ruthann Brochu and their children, Alex and Emily.

Dinner and dancing was held at the Spring Meadows Banquet Center in Gray. Renewal of vows was performed on the outside deck by the Rev. Robert Lariviere, and a prayer prior to the meal was given by Dr. John Bernier. A DVD presentation of the couple’s life was a focal point of the evening.

Friends and family came from as far away as Wisconsin, Florida and throughout New England. A grandnephew, Eric Swanson, made the trip from Spain with his wife, Montse, and their daughter, Erin. Original attendants included Joline Brissette and Annette Levesque Jalbert.

The couple was married at Saints Peter and Paul Church on Sept. 25, 1954. They owned and operated Connie’s Catering from 1969 to 1990, and are currently retired and spend their winters in Florida. They continue to be very active members of Saints Peter and Paul Church.

The celebration continued in November with a week-long vacation at Walt Disney World Resorts in Florida, hosted by the couple and enjoyed by their children, their spouses and fiancees and grandchildren.
