MOUNT VERNON – Absentee ballots are available for the March 5 election. For more information, people can call the town office at 293-2379 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The annual election of town officers will be 7 to 11 a.m. March 5 at the Community Center. The town meeting will reconvene at 1 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Elementary School to act on the remaining articles of business.
Paving contracts
WILTON – The Maine Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to Sealcoating Inc. of Hingham, Mass., for $133,986 to pave two sections of Route 2. The first job is in Wilton and Dixfield on Route 2. The project will begin 0.20 of a mile west of the Wilton-Dixfield town line and extend 1.38 miles. The other is in Carthage and Wilton, also on Route 2, beginning 0.05 of a mile west of the Carthage-Wilton town line and extending east 0.83 of a mile.

WILTON – Area men and women are invited to the Western Mountain Women’s Connection meeting Tuesday, March 1, at the Boiler Room Restaurant on Main Street.
There are two opportunities to attend. Lunch is from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and dinner is from 6 to 8 p.m. At the luncheon, Jim Hager of Wilton will present a feature on model railroading and at dinner, Brian and Ann King will share tips on how to build strong relationships. Bill Blount of New Hampshire will speak at both meals about “Finding True Fulfillment.”
