FARMINGTON – Elvin Sylvester “Shardy” Lambert, 77, of Farmington, died in the comfort of his home on Maple Avenue, Farmington, in the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 20, following a long illness, with loving family members at his side.

He was born July 14, 1927, in Farmington, a son of Harry and Ruth Staples Lambert. He received his education in Farmington schools.

He was a veteran, having served during World War II in the United States Army, where he received the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal.

He married the former Valeria E. Bean, and together they raised a family of four, living much of their married life in Jay and retiring to Farmington.

Shardy was a welder and pipe fitter at Bath Iron Works, and retired from International Paper Co., Jay.

He was an outdoorsman who respected nature and methodically worked the land, whether he was working on a “building” project or landscaping at his home. His ability to work with his hands and mind intrigued members of his family as they watched him design and construct both the simple and complex.

He will be sadly missed by his surviving family members: his wife, Valeria E. “Beanie” Lambert of Farmington; one son, Peter E. Lambert of Livermore Falls; three daughters, Bette J. LaMay of Portland, Julie M. Cook of Auburn, and Carol L. Pedley of Goffstown, N.H.; a brother, Arthur Lambert of Farmington; two sisters, Ruphelle Turcotte of Livermore, and Jane Bruneau of Madison; six grandchildren, Julianne LaMay, Karen J. (LaMay) Veilleux, Ryan Cook, Lauren Cook, Travis A. Pedley, and Garrett D. Pedley; a sister-in-law, Arlene Lambert of Farmington; a brother-in-law, Fred Collins of Bath; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Estelle Collins; and a brother, Eugene Lambert.
