AUGUSTA – Gerard A. Tardif, 87, a resident of Main Street, Livermore Falls, died late Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident for the past five years.
He was born March 6, 1917, in Jay, the son of Philip and Leda Marceau Tardif. He attended school at Jay High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Pacific Theater of the war.
On Sept. 7, 1948, he married Regina Marceau in St. Everest, Quebec. They made their home and raised their family in Jay and Livermore Falls.
He worked for International Paper Co. at the Otis Mill in Jay from 1946 to 1961, in the grinder room.
In 1961, he opened his own barber shop, now known as Regina’s Men Hairstyling and worked as a barber until his retirement in 1982.
He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.
He enjoyed painting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Regina, of 56 years; two sons, Richard Tardif of Farmingdale, and Michael Tardif of Jay; two granddaughters, Lauralynn and Jennifer Tardif; a brother, Damien Tardif and his wife, Gladys, of Livermore; and a sister, Denise Morin and her husband, Wilfred, of Farmington.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Therriault.
