PARIS – An Oxford woman was indicted Thursday on felony charges for alleged unemployment fraud that reportedly occurred between 2003 and 2004.

Catherine M. Knight, aka Catherine Sutherland and Catherine Thibodeau, was summoned to appear in Superior Court on two Class C felony counts of theft by deception, a Class C felony charge of forgery and a misdemeanor charge of unemployment fraud.

Knight’s indictment was handed up by the Oxford County grand jury in Paris. An arraignment date has not been set.

According to the indictment and Oxford Officer Alan Coffin, Knight obtained unauthorized control over unemployment benefits between Dec. 27, 2003, and May 27, 2004.

She is accused of stealing between $1,000 and $10,000 from the Maine Department of Labor by altering unemployment-compensation benefit checks and making false statements or representations to get the benefits, the indictment stated.

Knight was previously convicted of negotiating a worthless instrument on Jan. 29, 1998, and on Feb. 1, 1999, in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.
