BRUNSWICK – Phyllis L. Shank, of 1683 Royalsborough Road, Durham, died Friday, Feb. 18, after a short stay at Parkview Hospital.
She was born in Freeport on July 27, 1918, and was the daughter of David Longway and Josephine Prosser. She attended Freeport schools, and retired from Freeport Shoe after many years.
She was the wife of Roland E. Shank, who predeceased her in 1979. Both travelled to many American Legion conventions throughout the United States. She held many offices in the J. Arthur Stowell Unit No. 83 American Legion Auxiliary, and remained active until her death.
She is survived by her daughter, Rita Hanock, of Revere, Mass.; granddaughter, Kim Bergan; great-grandson, David Bergan; and great-great-granddaughter, Brianna, along with great-granddaughters, Jennifer Bergan and Jo-Anne Cronin. Also, by her son, Roger E. Shank, of Pine Bluff, Ark.; grandson, Roger E. Shank Jr.; and great-granddaughters, Sarah, Jennifer and Rachel, along with grandson, Gregory H. Shank, and great-granddaughter, Julia.
Her surviving siblings are brother, Harold Longway; and sisters, Josephine Bulick, Hilda McCarthy, and Madelyn Lincoln. There are also many nieces and nephews that loved her very much.
