LEWISTON – Wendell Alexander Sweatt, 92, of Farmington, died Friday, Feb. 18, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, four days after an automobile accident in Turner.

He was born March 29, 1912, in Andover, the son of Chester and Jessica Cooper Sweatt. He received his education in Andover schools, and continued his education at Bliss Business College.

A veteran, Mr. Sweatt served as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II.

He was employed as an account executive for Forster Manufacturing Co. for many years. He later was employed by National Life Insurance of Vermont, and returned to Forsters where he became the head of export and military sales for the company.

His interest in collecting, restoring and selling antiques was both a hobby and a sideline business during his retirement years. He especially enjoyed collecting and selling antique hand tools.

He was a member of Farmington Masonic Lodge, and had been a member of the Old South Congregational Church and the Titcomb Ski Club.

Never idle, he always enjoyed maintaining the details of his home, and looked forward to his Friday night card games with close friends.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jordan Sweatt, of Farmington; one son, Gary J. Sweatt of New Sharon; and one sister, Cecilia Adams of Glastonbury, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Chester Volney Sweatt; and two sisters, Athalie Cummings, and Eleanor Mosher.
