LEWISTON – Bernard J. Koroski, 80, a resident of Plummer Street, Lisbon Falls, died early Monday at Central Maine Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Waltham, Mass., Feb. 8, 1925, the son of Andrew and Sophia (Stascavage) Koroski, where he attended St. Charles Schools.
He served his country from 1943 to 1945 as a member of the Seabees in the U.S. Navy, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, American Theatre medal, C.B. Insignia and the Victory Medal.
On Oct. 5, 1947, he married his best friend, Blanche C. (Szykniej), in Chelsea, Mass. Together they raised two sons, living most of their married lives in Lisbon Falls. Mrs. Koroski died Oct. 11, 1985.
He worked for 42 years at Pejepscot Paper Co., retiring in 1987 as a machine tender.
A devoted member of Holy Trinity Parish, he loved being with family and friends.
He was an avid bowler and swimmer, winning a gold medal in the 1996 Maine senior games in the free style swim event.
Survivors include two sons, Paul J.A. Koroski and his wife, Alice, of Lisbon Falls, and Thomas A. Koroski of Lisbon Falls; one sister, Mary Christopher of Pomona, Mo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Butt.
