FARMINGTON – The Western Mountains Alliance board of directors honored Deborah M. Burd at their annual meeting on Feb. 3 for her 10-year anniversary as the executive director.
Burd was thanked for developing a financially sound organization, poised to move forward with a meaningful strategic plan.
She facilitated the development of emerging organizations such as: Mt. Blue Community Access Television, River Valley Farmer’s Market, and Western Maine Paper and Heritage Museum, according to the board.
As an advocate for the region, Burd was a founding member of the Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative, the Maine Women’s Agricultural Network and GrowSmart Maine.
She has served as the vice-chair of the Maine Rural Development Council, HealthReach Community Health Centers, and as a trustee of the Natural Resources Council of Maine. Currently, she serves on the boards of Coastal Enterprises Inc., the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, GrowSmart Maine, the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center and Maine WoodNet.
