RAYMOND – Organizers of this weekend’s Windham Rotary DerbyFest 2005 say that Sebago Lake is a go for all events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25, 26, and 27. The Maine Warden Service warned last week that ice conditions were hazardous in some places due to spells of warm weather. But Rotary spokesman Tom Noonan said Wednesday afternoon that ice thicknesses of 14 to 16 feet have been measured on Jordan Bay, and 11 inches on Maine Bay. “We’re not recommending that people drive out on it in cars on long trips,” he said. “Just snowmobiles and ATVs. No cars.”

But professional and amateur drivers are expected to participate in Friday night’s ice car race on the lake at 7 p.m. at Point Sebago Resort in Casco. The Hardwater Auto Racing Challenge is billed as Maine’s first nighttime ice-racing event.

Saturday’s Sebago Lake Air Show is scheduled at 11 a.m. at Raymond Beach. For more information, people may contact the Sebago Lakes Chamber of Commerce, 892-8265.

Family Field Day

RUMFORD – The Rumford Polar Bears Snowmobile Club will hold its third annual Family Field Day on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Ernest Phillips and Jim Powers fields on South Rumford Road. The fields are across the Androscoggin River from McDonald’s restaurant and may be accessed by automobile and snowmobile. Once again, Diane Mitchell and her workers are inviting families to attend and enjoy a giant snow-sculpture slide for young and old. The events will begin at 9 a.m. with a poker run for snowmobilers and a poker walk for those without snowmobiles. Participants will be able to begin the poker run at any time between 9 a.m. and noon. The entry fee is $5. The first-place winner will get 40 percent of the pot, and the second-place winner will receive 20 percent.
