BETHEL – Planners again tabled work on a subdivision application at Wednesday night’s meeting after discussing previously requested information and documents.

Bob Berry of Main-Land Development Consultants Inc. of Livermore Falls represented subdivision applicants Charles and Charlene Romans.

The Romanses are proposing an eight-lot subdivision, Hide-A-Way Hills, on Hide-A-Way Lane off Chandler Hill Road and Route 26. The lots range in size from 40,000 square feet to 1.43 acres.

Board Chairman Al Cressy said that planners had already found the application to be complete, finished the required site walk and public hearing, and had approved a preliminary plan.

The board Wednesday night focused on a requested storm-water management plan and Fire Chief Jim Young’s letter about the project.

Young, Cressy said, reading from the letter, strongly urged the board to recommend that the Romanses change their plan from creating a “hammerhead-ended” road to a cul-de-sac.

The cul-de-sac, Young stated, would be ideal for the location of a fire-suppression cistern.

Berry said the hammerhead end would be more convenient to his clients should they decide to extend the road at a future point.

Charles Romans said the hammerhead section itself is the entrance to his garage, and he keeps it plowed and maintained at all times.

Planners then agreed that the hammerhead ending was all right.

“The cul-de-sac is a recommendation against future development, which we do not have on the table,” said Planner Lawrence Engdahl.

Berry’s storm-water management plan revealed a shortcoming in the town’s ditching of Chandler Hill Road, which, according to planning assistant Sarah Tucker, the town intends to remedy.

Berry said his clients intend to fix their existing road and add a crown to it to prevent rainwater from flowing across Chandler Hill Road at the intersection.
