WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) – Vermont’s most wanted fugitive has been found dead in a New Hampshire hospital.
Edward F. Bessette Jr., who has been wanted on a sexual assault charge for 18 years, was located at a Manchester, N.H., emergency room on Friday.
Bessette was admitted to the hospital under the false name of Edward Givens.
He later died of complications from liver failure, police said.
The New Hampshire medical examiner’s office investigated and determined that Givens was actually Bessette.
A warrant was issued for Bessette’s arrest in 1988.
He has been using the name Givens and living in Manchester, N.H., for the last 18 years operating as a baby sitter, police said.
