LOS ANGELES (AP) – Grammy-winning singer Whitney Houston became ill on a flight to Paris and was taken to a hospital Thursday for treatment of apparent food poisoning.

“Whitney Houston was rushed to a hospital in Paris because of severe vomiting. She was sick on the aircraft,” said Nancy Seltzer, her Los Angeles publicist. “She is doing well. She has gastroenteritis.”

Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the stomach and the intestines. Seltzer said she didn’t know the cause of the apparent food poisoning.

Houston, 41, was traveling with a bodyguard when she became ill, Seltzer said. When the plane landed in Paris, she was taken to a hospital and treated in the emergency room.

The name of the airline and the hospital weren’t disclosed for security reasons.

It wasn’t believed that Houston would need to be admitted to the hospital, Seltzer said.

Houston is known for her rendition of “I Will Always Love You” and her role in the 1992 film “The Bodyguard.”
