WILTON – Temple Shalom Tsafon (North), a Jewish group recently formed in Franklin County, will offer a learning service for those who would like to know more about Shabbat (Sabbath) prayers.

The service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at 305 Main St. and will be led by Rabbi Hillel Katzir, spiritual leader of Temple Shalom Synagogue in Auburn, with which Temple Shalom Tsafon is affiliated.

“Many Jews are not as familiar as they would like to be with the prayers of Shabbat, and that sometimes keeps them from praying,” said Katzir. “Our goal is to increase everyone’s understanding and comfort level with the prayer experience and all that surrounds it.”

The rabbi also said the service will include some study from the Torah, the first five books of the Bible, which Jews read from a scroll on Shabbat mornings.

Katzir said, “The Torah is the instruction manual given to human beings on how to make this a better world. On Shabbat, the day of rest, we can take the time to study that manual, so that we can do a better job all week of being partners with God in the ongoing project of completing Creation.”

The service is open to all at no cost. It will be followed by a potluck vegetarian lunch. For more information, those interested can call Rabbi Katzir at 786-4201.
