JAY – Barbara G. Whittemore, 79, a resident of Lavoie Street in Jay, died Sunday, Feb. 27, at her home.
She was born on Aug. 16, 1925, in Livermore, the daughter of Walter S. and Elsie M. Campbell Goding. She was a 1943 graduate of Jay High School.
On May 14, 1946, she married Warren G. Whittemore in North Livermore. They made their home on the Tessier Road. After her husband’s death in 1987, Barbara moved to Farmingdale where she lived until 1991.
She had worked at Royal Typewriter Co. and Etna Life Insurance Co. in Connecticut and later at Dunton’s Department Store in Livermore Falls. She was a member of the Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church of Livermore Falls, where she was also an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Group, the Jay-Livermore Falls Senior Citizens, Kings Daughters, the VFW Auxiliary of Augusta, VFW Auxiliary, Post 3335 of Jay and Amvets Auxiliary, Post 33 of Jay.
Barbara enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and family and welcoming them to her home. She was counted on to remember dates, always having a good memory for birthdays and anniversaries and such.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Whittemore of Jay; nieces, Susan Lajoie, Marilyn Reed, Kathryn Lally, Laurie Ann Andreades and Mary Lou Beckler; nephews, Alan Whittemore and Maynard Goding; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Goding.
She was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Philip Goding and also a young brother, Frank, who passed away at the age of 12 in 1932.
