In general, I support Rep. Mike Michaud. The other day, Rep. Michaud stopped in Norway to discuss President Bush’s plan to salvage the Social Security system.

Rep. Michaud opposed the president’s plan. One has to keep in mind that Rep. Michaud knows enough about the plan to give an opinion. When he was asked what might be an alternative to the Bush plan, Rep. Michaud said he couldn’t answer that question because the entire plan has yet to be unveiled.

That statement is what I would call a cop-out. That is what we frequently hear from many politicians who try to have it both ways. I would respectfully ask Rep. Michaud to wait until the plan has been unveiled before he commits himself to whether the plan is a good one or not.

On this issue, I would say, “Shame on you, Rep. Michaud.”
