GREENE – Three candidates are vying for two seats on the Board of Selectmen in this year’s municipal election.

Incumbent Mark Christman is seeking a third term. Sheldon Bubier and Tony Rene also are hoping to win seats. Long-time Selectman Maurice “Moe” Levasseur is not running for re-election.

School board member Peter Maxwell also is not running for re-election, and John Woodard is running unopposed.

All positions are for three years.

The polls will be open at the Town Office from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4. Town meeting begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Greene Central School.

Sheldon Bubier

Age: 50

Occupation: Self-employed logger and farmer

Political experience: Five years on school board; four years on Budget Committee; eight years on the Planning Board

Community service: Solid Waste Committee; Comprehensive Plan Committee

Quote: “I’m looking to lower taxes by generating revenue in ways other than property taxes – through fees, through the elimination of some of the waste and wasteful spending. The issue to me is property taxes. We have to solve this first or we do not survive.”

Mark Christman

Age: 41

Occupation: Sales representative, SAD 52 truant officer, school bus driver, horse farmer

Political experience: Two terms on Board of Selectmen

Community service: Past president of Percheron Horse Association of Maine; Sabattus Lake Dam Commission; Conservation Commission; Fire Department Building Committee

Quote: “I would like to continue to grow Greene in a positive direction.” He wants to bring the voice of the public back to the Board of Selectmen and be cautious of spending while knowing the town’s needs and wants. He wants the board to follow the direction of the voters.

Tony Rene

Age: 47

Occupation: Electrical project manager and estimator

Political experience: Five years on Planning Board and current chairman; several legislative committees

Community service: Greene Conservation Commission; youth sports coach

Quote: “I would like to continue with what I feel is a progressive move forward, and to best maintain the level of services we have without creating more of a tax burden on the citizens of Greene. I think the town is heading in the right direction and I want to be a part of that.”
