FAIRFIELD – Two proponents of girl power, “Hardy Girls Healthy Women” of Waterville and Rockland-based “Zoey’s Room,” will team up on Saturday, March 12, to encourage middle school girls to take an interest in male-dominated career fields.

The two nonprofit organizations will host a one-day “TechKNOW!” conference at Kennebec Valley Community College, 92 Western Ave. Programs will be offered for fifth to eighth grade girls and adult women.

“TechKNOW!” will provide an opportunity for girls to participate in workshops geared toward learning about careers in engineering, science, medicine, Web design, video art, animation and GIS cartography.

Adult women can participate in two “TechKNOW!” sessions designed to increase their understanding of computers, the media and girls’ involvement with both.

Registration will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Cost is: students, $15/$20 at the door; women, $25 for one workshop/$30 at the door or $35 for both/$40 at the door. Scholarships are available. Preregistration ends March 7. Those wanting more information can call 861-8131 or http://www.hardygirlshealthywomen.org.
