RUMFORD – The Harlem Rockets Comedy Basketball Team will bring its humorous brand of basketball to Mountain Valley High School’s Puiia Gym next Wednesday as a benefit for the Mountain Valley Athletic Boosters.

The game starts at 7 p.m.

The team will take on the River Valley Dream Team. A different River Valley team will play during each of the four quarters, said Rich Allen, president of the boosters club.

First up will be the coaches from SAD 43 and SAD 21. Allen, who played guard as a teenager at Livermore Falls High School, will play on that team.

“I’m looking forward to it. It should be fun,” he said.

Allen coaches girls junior varsity basketball at MVHS and has coached middle school girls basketball in the past.

The Rockets will face the MVHS girls basketball team during the second quarter and the MVHS boys basketball team during the fourth quarter.

Teachers from SAD 21 and SAD 43 will take on the Rockets during the third quarter.

Besides playing basketball and demonstrating their talent with the ball, the Rockets will visit middle and elementary schools at both SAD 21 and SAD 43 during the day of the game. They will bring messages against the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and will encourage youngsters to stay in school and listen to their parents.

All proceeds from the benefit game will help the boosters buy letter jackets for championship teams at MVHS.

This is the second appearance by the Harlem Rockets.

Last year’s show played to a standing-room-only crowd, said Allen.

Tickets, at $6, are available at the high school, Hannafords and the Franklin Savings Bank branches in Rumford and Mexico. Tickets are $7 at the door.
