LEWISTON – Jean Louis Belanger, 70, of 213 Pine St., Lewiston, died Wednesday morning, March 2, at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born in Berlin, N.H., May 21, 1934, the son of Joseph and Cordelia Fortier Belanger. He was educated in Berlin schools, and was a mason by trade.

He was a member of the Local No. 1 in Lee, N.H.

On Oct. 9, 1971, he married the former Muriel Gagne. Together they made their home in Lewiston.

He was an avid bingo player. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed his friends at Gene’s corner store. He also loved his trips to Old Orchard. He also had a great love for his two birds, Baby and Susie. He will be sadly missed, but always remembered, by all who knew him.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Muriel, of Lewiston; his daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Bernadette) Wicker of Dublin, Ga., his son, Jean Louis Belanger of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four grandchildren; his five step-children, Jacqueline Desjardins and her husband, Ronald, of Lewiston, Gontran Jean and his wife, Joline, of Lewiston, Mrs. Patricia Singh of Norwalk, Conn., Michael Crowley and his wife, Lois, of Mechanic Falls, and Norman Crowley and his wife, Gertrude, of Wilton.

He is also survived by two sisters, Jeannine Glover of Berlin N.H., and Theresa Reardon of Plainfield, Conn.; two brothers, Leo and his wife, Anna Belanger, of East Milan, N.H., and Robert and his wife, Stella Belanger, of Glen, N.H.; his very special friends, Mark and Joan Gemme of Lisbon, and Robert and Mary Bosse of Lisbon.; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by seven sisters, Mrs. Gerard (Juliette) Gosselin of Berlin, N.H., Mrs. Jean Paul (Lucienne) Dancoes of Berlin, N.H., Mrs. Arthur (Rose) Montminy of Berlin, N.H., Mrs. Teague (Annette) Foster of South Portland, Mrs. Leo (Gabrielle) Landry of Berlin, N.H., Mrs. Bradley (Yvonne) Marshall of Wallingford, Conn., Mrs. Gilbert (Rita) Gagne of Berlin, N.H.; and one brother, Paul Belanger of Long Island, N.Y.

The family wishes to extend a big thank you to Bob Chamberland, a dear friend; the Rev. Tom Farley of St. Patrick’s Church; and also to Androscoggin Home Health nurses, especially to RN Patty Ann, for whom Jean had a soft spot in his heart. They connected right from the beginning.
