PARIS – An Oxford man pleaded guilty Thursday to three charges of felony rape and other charges related to an incident that occurred last March in Oxford.
Scott Gagne, 31, was convicted of three Class B felony counts of gross sexual assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and two counts of aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs, all Class C felonies.
In return for his plea in Oxford County Superior Court, a Class A felony rape charge was dismissed, as were one count of aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs, three felony counts of sexual abuse of a minor and three misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor.
The Department of Corrections will do a pre-sentencing investigative report to provide a judge with background information on Gagne regarding police records, conviction information and a victim impact statement. That is expected to take several weeks to complete.
Gagne was indicted by an Oxford County grand jury last May on 14 counts in connection with an incident that took place on March 17, 2004.
He was summonsed on charges that he had sex with three girls between the ages of 14 and 16 after allegedly furnishing them with alcohol and Klonopin, a drug known for its sedating effect. The indictment alleged that Gagne raped one of the girls.
In all three cases, police alleged that Gagne engaged in a sexual act with the teens after giving them both drugs and alcohol that “substantially impaired” the girls’ power to “appraise or control the sexual acts.”
Gagne was previously convicted of aggravated assault on Nov. 22, 1996, in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
