PORTLAND (AP) – Kirk Daubenspeck made 34 saves and Tomas Fleischmann netted the game-winning goal as the Portland Pirates beat the Worcester IceCats 2-1 Thursday.
Portland (25-25-3-5) grabbed an early 2-0 lead. Graham Mink scored on a backhanded shot from the top of the crease 2:18 into the game, before Fleischmann took a pass from Jared Aulin and beat Worcester goalie Curtis Sanford at 4:53.
Aulin has tallied five points in his past five games.
The IceCats (32-23-3-2) made it exciting late in the second period when Dennis Wideman stole the puck at center ice and scored on a breakaway at 14:02.
Daubenspeck stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced for his second win against Worcester this season. Sanford made 28 saves in the loss.
