LIVERMORE – Wilfred E. Mercier, 87, a resident of Livermore, passed away Thursday, March 3, at his home, surrounded by his family following a long illness.

He was born Feb. 6, 1918, in Livermore Falls, the son of Wilfred A. and Rose Anna Lemay Mercier. He was a 1936 graduate of Livermore Falls High School.

He served in the United States Army during World War II ,stationed in Africa and India from 1943 to 1946.

On Nov. 30, 1940, he married Noella Judd at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.

He worked most of his life as a carpenter. In 1950, he started Mercier Construction Co., which he operated for 24 years, retiring in 1974.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, where he served on the church council and as finance committee chairman for many years.

He was a longtime member and still active in the New Norlands Grange.

He enjoyed music, dancing, camping and fishing in the Rangeley Lakes.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years of Livermore; four children, Linda Baillargeon and her husband, Clement, of Vassalboro, Claudia Marlott of Lewiston, Duane Mercier and his wife, Anita, of Fayette, and Sharon Folker and her husband, Frank, of Greene; two brothers, Roland Mercier of Livermore Falls, and Victor Mercier of Livermore Fallsl; two sisters, Yvonne Judd of Livermore Falls, and Alice Judd of Livermore Falls; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Lucien, Henry, and Joseph Mercier; and a sister, Jeannette Chretien.
