SABATTUS – A recount will be held in the five-way race for a seat on the Board of Selectmen after William Henshaw got a three-vote edge over Guy Desjardins on Friday.
Henshaw received 96 votes in the tally Friday night, with Desjardins getting 93, said Town Clerk Robin Dulac. Jon Mennealy finished third with 82 votes; Polly McCauley received 38 votes, and Joline Lacoste Vanover tallied 32.
The three-year position is being vacated by Rudy Gayton, who has served on the board for nearly two decades.
School Board Chairman Robert Gayton Jr. was re-elected with 166 votes, and Sheila Clifford was elected to the board for the first time with 237 votes. Also running for the two seats were incumbent Gary Blais, who got 135 votes, and Steven Reed with 96.
Incumbent Sanitary Water District member Richard Behr lost his seat with 114 votes. He is also the town’s code enforcement officer. Voters returned incumbent Donald Laliberty with 259 votes and elected Walter Wood with 244.
