KINGFIELD – Former Planning Board member Neal McCurdy won election to the Board of Selectmen on Saturday, defeating incumbent Michelle Poulin.
“We’ll certainly miss her contributions,” Selectman John Dill told the approximately 150 residents at the annual town meeting. “Shelly did a very nice job, and she has excellent writing skills.” But, he said, “Neal has a great analytical mind and has the extra time to put into it.”
McCurdy said he was “pleased” to get the job.
Residents re-elected Sonya Dearborn to a second term on the SAD 58 board. An appropriation for the Fire Department of $44,000 represented nearly a 50 percent increase from the 2004 budget.
“We have to pay $20,000 for the new fire station,” Dill explained.
Voters raised $45,000 for the town’s share of the transfer station operation and authorized selectmen to accept the former superintendent’s office and Town Park from SAD 58 for possible use as new office space.
All 30 budget articles passed.
“This is the quickest we’ve ever gone through” the warrant, Dill said. One reason he gave was that the town budget is down $6,370 from 2004. “This is a pretty calm town meeting,” McCurdy said.
Kingfield’s 188th Annual Report was dedicated to the Stanley Museum, which celebrated its centennial in 2004. “We are honored that the town report was dedicated to the museum’s building,” Susan Davis of the Stanley Museum said.
Meldon Gilmore served as moderator.
