LEWISTON – Normand R. Roy, 76, of Auburn passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday morning, March 5, at Central Maine Medical Center due to a brief illness.

He was born in Lewiston on June 3, 1928, the son of Anatole and Blanche Rancourt Roy. He grew up in the Lewiston area and attended Lewiston schools. He was a 1946 graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School.

While in high school, he started work at Ward Bros. as a stock boy. He continued to work there through his completion of school and afterward.

In January of 1951, Normand enlisted in the United States Army, and served until December of 1952. He was a military policeman.

In October of 1953, Normand married his late wife, Jean, at Saints Peter and Paul’s Church in Lewiston. Mr. Roy still continued his work at Ward Bros. during their marriage, until his retirement in 1979.

He was a member of the Elks Club, a life member of Paralyzed Veteran’s of America, and a life member of the American Legion. He was also a life member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

He was an avid cribbage player and loved watching all sports, both college and professional.

He also enjoyed being an active part of his grandchildren’s lives.

He is survived by one daughter, Jan C. Read and her husband, Martin, of Auburn; three sisters, Alice Lever of Auburn, Pauline Roy of Sabattus, and Marcy Dubay of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Colin, Katie and Kevin of Auburn; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and Jean “Popeye” Roy.
