I would like to thank the people of Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding areas for all the support shown our Maine Army National Guard troops. Having a brother, as well as many friends, in the 133rd, it was so refreshing to know that, as a community, we all shared the experience together.

Our local media did a wonderful job keeping us updated on any news related to our troops. Local businesses, as well as individuals, donated many items, which were well-received and greatly appreciated. Red, white, blue and yellow magnetic ribbons, as well as flags, could be seen everywhere.

Brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and friends may have been thousands of miles away, but in our community they were only a heartbeat away.

Thank you again, Lewiston-Auburn and the entire state of Maine. We all should be proud of our soldiers and ourselves for doing such a wonderful job.

George B. O’Connell, Sabattus
