I recently tried to adopt a cat from the Auburn Animal Shelter and was told that I would need to have my two dogs vaccinated with distemper shots first. After speaking with a shelter director about my concern of over-vaccinating and not wanting to get the shots, he agreed that he, too, doesn’t get vaccinations other than rabies for his own pets. However, I would need to do so in order to adopt the cat.

I refused, and I did not get the cat.

I hear stories of how many animals must be euthanized because of lack of space at animal shelters. I wonder why they have no space?

I have two adopted dogs now. I have had the first for 10 years and the second going on three years. I love my pets and wanted to provide a home to another. I understand policies, but this one is ridiculous to follow if the shelter director doesn’t even follow it.
