KINGFIELD – The Kingfield Board of Selectmen appointed town officials Monday night at its first meeting since Neal McCurdy was elected to serve Saturday.

John Dill was reappointed chairman of the selectmen.

William F. Brown’s job title was changed from assessor to assessing agent.

Brad Orbeton was appointed Kingfield sexton and cemetery caretaker.

Charles Twitchell was reappointed fire chief and Emergency Management Agency director and Donald Trenton as fair hearing officer.

Douglas Marble was reappointed code enforcement officer, and Selectman Heather Moody was reappointed animal control officer.

The board discussed possible ramifications to Kingfield’s budget if changes to the homestead exemption go to the Legislature. The homestead exemption is designed to give property tax relief.

Dill said, “Here in Kingfield, we’ve not yet put anyone out because they couldn’t pay their taxes.”

Board members speculated that Kingfield taxpayers might wait to pay taxes until prospective changes to the homestead exemption are decided.

“If the Legislature doesn’t decide on anything until September,” said Dill, “we’ll have to borrow money and then pay interest on it later.”
