SALUDA, N.C. – Patricia Anne Hopkinson Smith, 77, of 371 Heatherly Heights Road, Saluda, N.C., died Saturday, March 5, at her home.

Born in Newburyport, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Walter G. and Sadie Vera Lutz Hopkinson. She was educated in Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine, having graduated from the Auburn, Maine, School of Commerce.

A former resident of Florham Park, N.J., she moved to Saluda in 1993. She was a member Saluda Extension Club, and was a volunteer with the Saluda Senior Center. She was also a member of the Saluda United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Dwight B. H. Smith Jr., of the home; two sons, David Smith (Susan) of Asheville, N.C., and Walter Smith (Christine) of Gilbert, Ariz.; a daughter, Donna Kalesnick (John) of Poland; a sister, Wanda Michelson (Charles) of Salisbury, Md.; four grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
