AUBURN – Alyre A. Gravel, 90, of 50 Pleasant St., Lewiston, died Monday, March 7, at Bolster Heights Health Care.

He was born in Canada, Jan. 24, 1915, the son of Alphonse and Arthemise Dupuis Gravel. He was educated in local schools and was married in 1940 to Medora S. Cote, who predeceased him July 16, 1994.

He owned and operated the former Al’s Superette on Shawmut Street in Lewiston from 1959 to 1968. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Bourque’s Market. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish.

He is survived by two sons, Fern F. Gravel and his wife, Louise, of Lewiston, and Robert A. Gravel and his wife, Susan, of Greene; five grandchildren, Deborah Smith and her husband, Brian, of Hayes, Va., Michelle and Celeste Gravel of Lewiston, Bobbie Sue Brown of Greene, and Christie Lynn Gravel and her fianc, Bob Keenan, of Knoxville, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren, Alex and Mathew Brown, Kristina and Kayla Smith, and Ashley Sue and Christian Robert Keenan; two sisters, Juliette of Georgia, and Germaine St.Pierre of Lewiston; a brother, Hervey Gravel of East Harpswell; his dear friend, Lillian Beaulieu of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
