CHESTERVILLE – Selectmen are proposing a $339,124 spending plan for the fiscal year 2005 municipal government, an increase of $14,743 from last year’s spending package.

Voters have 56 articles to consider during the annual town meeting, which will begin with elections from 1 to 6 p.m. on Monday at Town Hall, followed by warrant articles taken up at 7 p.m. there.

Resident John Gee is challenging incumbent Selectman John Worth for a three-year term, according to board Chairman David Archer.

Some of the increase for this year’s proposed operating expenses, Archer said, is due to a $9,000 boost in the landfill account.

That account was $66,000 in 2004 and is proposed at $75,000 for 2005, he said. The account covers tipping fees, demolition and roadside pickup of solid waste.

Archer wasn’t sure whether any warrant articles would prove controversial.

“Who knows?” he said. “You never know.”

James Grip is expected to be the moderator, he said.
