I am consistently surprised at the attendance of parents when I attend school events.
One event recently drew 10 parents out of a class of 365. The subject was the MEA testing and other important academic issues.
Sporting events get a better turnout. Curriculums are changing to meet the standards of the No Child Left Behind Act. Assessment targets and the MEA test are measuring the school’s performance of all public schools. If parents are not knowledgeable and do not support our students to meet these standards, our school’s accountability is at risk.
Parents need to be involved in their child’s education now more than ever, preschool to graduation. Everyone is busy. How many times are parents invited to the school for a presentation? When the staff members take the time to plan one and stay late in the evening to offer information, they should see a full room.
