DENVER (AP) – In early versions of a Feb. 21 obituary for Hunter S. Thompson, The Associated Press erroneously attributed a passage referring to “that dark, venal, and incurably violent side of the American character.” The quote was Thompson’s referring to President Richard Nixon, not Nixon describing Thompson. The error was corrected in later versions of the story.
