LIVERMORE – The Fire Department has been authorized to order an E1 tanker/pumper for $225,000. Voters have already approved the town’s portion of $22,500, with the rest coming from a $202,500 grant received in September.

Selectmen authorized the purchase of the truck from Greenwood Fire Apparatus of North Attleboro, Mass., said Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub. It will take about nine months for the truck to arrive, he said.

The tanker/pumper will have a 2,500-gallon tank and be capable of pumping 1,250 gallons per minute. It will replace two vehicles, Schaub said.

A 1967 tanker has already been removed from service and a 1981 pumper will be replaced once the new truck arrives. The latter truck has been troublesome and expensive to repair, he added.

“Selectmen have been pleased as all get-out that the Fire Department has been able to get these funds and upgrade the department with minimal cost to the taxpayers,” Schaub said. The department previously received a grant of nearly $100,000 grant to buy equipment.

Selectmen also have approved a recommendation from the Planning Board to apply for a Comprehensive Plan planning grant, Schaub said. The last plan, which was approved in 1988, doesn’t meet the state’s guidelines, he said. The grant would be for $21,000, with a local match of $7,000. Voters will be asked to consider the grant at a town meeting.

The plan would take between 18 and 24 months to complete, if voters approve the funding.
