NORWAY – Oxford Hills residents in need will soon have a new source of assistance.

Thanks to the hard work of Boy Scout Troop 130 in South Paris, the Food Pantry in Norway will be able to offer nonfood items such as personal hygiene products and disposable kitchen items beginning the week of March 20.

The project was the brainchild of Boy Scout John Daggett, who built shelves to store the items for his Eagle Scout project a few years ago. His fellow troop members picked up where he left off earlier this year.

Scout Logan Landry said the troop distributed 250 bags to neighbors, friends and family members. They asked that the bags be filled with nonfood items that the Scouts would later collect.

The need for these products is great. Landry said the Food Pantry received six bags of nonfood items when word about the project got out. All of the items donated were gone within days.

The Scouts are suggesting donations of toilet paper, diapers, toothbrushes and paste, soap and shampoo. Paper towels and disposable plates, cups and utensils are also needed. Donations can be dropped off at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway, where they will be stored. Those in need of the items can pick them up at the Food Pantry at Christ Episcopal Church, across the street.
