FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – The New England Patriots signed free agent receiver-returner Tim Dwight to a one-year contract on Sunday.

Dwight played last season with the San Diego Chargers when he had just two receptions for 31 yards while battling toe and hamstring injuries. He also returned 50 kickoffs for a 24.4-yard average and one touchdown on an 87-yard return against the New York Jets.

The Chargers released Dwight on Feb. 22 after four injury-marred seasons. He sustained a collapsed lung in both 2001 and 2003.

In seven NFL seasons with Atlanta and San Diego, Dwight has 163 catches for 2,422 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also has returned two kickoffs and three punts for scores.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
