AUBURN – A special meeting of Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. Officers will confer the degrees of the order. All Eastern Star members are invited. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the meeting.

Nominate officers

AUBURN – The Capt Frank W. Hulett VFW Post 1603 will have its first nomination of officers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16. at the post home, 588 Minot Ave. All members are asked to attend.

The final nominations and election of officers will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, when the new officers will be elected. Anyone wishing to be nominated for any office should be at the meeting or send a letter to Adjutant Arthur J. Roy at 330 Russell St., Lewiston, or e-mail AJRVFW@juno.com.

Anyone wishing to become a member may visit the post from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or contact Roy.

The post auxiliary will hold a bean and casserole supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, before the post has the annual ham raffle. Cost is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children under 10.

College talk

LEWISTON – The International Students Organization of Lewiston-Auburn and the Religious Studies Concentration (Arts and Humanities) of the University of Southern Maine at Lewiston/Auburn will sponsor a discussion with Rabbi Hillel Katzir, “One Perspective on Israel-Palestine.” The talk, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 18, is open to all who are interested. It will be a “brown bag” lunch with shared cookies and cider in Classroom 105.

Distribution day

AUBURN – Auburn AC Serve (SHARE), part of Serve New England’s food and volunteer program, will have Distribution Day from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March. 19, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, Whitney Street entrance. Blood drive

WINTHROP – A Community Blood Drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at St. Francis Parish Hall, Lake Street. The drive is open to all donors. Identification card or license is required.

Seniors speaker

LEWISTON – Holy Cross Seniors will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the church hall.

Anita Wiles, LSW, of SeniorsPlus, the local Area Agency on Aging, will be the featured speaker. Her topic will be “Medicare,” and she will discuss the new drug cards and prescription benefits.

She also will talk about awareness of fraud in the Medicare system.

All area seniors are invited. A social will follow and a light lunch will be served.

Adoption meeting

LEWISTON – The Lewiston office of the Department of Health and Human Services will host a public informational meeting about adoption and foster care at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23. For location and to participate, people should contact A Family For ME at 1-877-505-0545.

Those considering adoption or foster care through the Maine Department of Health and Human Services are encouraged to attend the open, no-obligation meeting.
