HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) – A manufacturer of prepared tuna salad sold in supermarkets across the Northeast is conducting a voluntary recall because of possible contamination.
The tuna salad being recalled is made by Hans Kissle Co. Inc. and is sold under the Hans Kissle, Shaw’s, Star Market, Stop & Shop and Block & Barrel labels.
The Haverhill-based company is recalling 5-pound and 8-ounce containers with sell-by dates between March 15 and March 31.
The tuna salad in question was sold in all six New England states as well as New York and New Jersey.
No illnesses have been reported related to the recall, the company said.
Consumers who bought the tuna salad should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Hans Kissle is voluntarily recalling the tuna because of possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes, which causes flu-like symptoms in healthy people, but is potentially fatal for young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
