AUBURN – A weekend drug overdose in Auburn has led to the arrest of a father and son and added new twists to the investigations of a stabbing, a shooting and a high speed chase that have occurred in recent weeks.

Early Sunday morning, rescue crews were called to 120 Goff St. where 40-year-old Donald Morin had passed out after overdosing on drugs, police said.

Paramedics revived him, and police who were in the apartment said they spotted drug paraphernalia inside the home. Drug agents who were called to the scene said they found crack cocaine, prescription drugs and a syringe and needle that had been used to administer drugs.

Tyler Morin, Donald’s 19-year-old son, was arrested at the scene on a charge of aggravated trafficking in cocaine and the prescription drug Klonopin.

Investigators said it remained unknown what kind of drug Donald Morin overdosed on, although it was believed to be an opiate. He was treated at a Lewiston hospital and released.

On Tuesday, the older Morin was arrested and charged with violating probation stemming from the weekend overdose. He and his son both remained at the Androscoggin County Jail on Wednesday.

On Feb. 27, the younger Morin was shot in the shoulder when a gunman opened fire with a .357-caliber Magnum outside Morin’s apartment at 63 Oak St. in Lewiston.

The shooting led to a police car chase that wound through Topsham, Brunswick and Lisbon. The teenager being sought, 17-year-old Tony Russo, was finally arrested after driving back into Auburn after the lengthy pursuit.

Russo was charged with attempted murder in the shooting of Tyler Morin and arrested on a host of other charges related to the chase. Police at the time were familiar with the teen from other recent violence.

On Feb. 14, Russo was stabbed in an apartment at 120 Goff St. where Donald Morin lives, police said. Russo was hospitalized with stab wounds in that attack, but later fled CMMC after ripping out his IV and sneaking out of the hospital in a gown.

At the time of the stabbing, Russo was wanted by police for escaping from the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. Investigators said he was reported missing from the youth center Oct. 30, but he was not detained while police were investigating the stabbing.

No arrests have been made in the knifing incident. Police in both Auburn and Lewiston are investigating the link between the stabbing and the shooting, in which Russo and Tyler Morin were both believed to have been involved.

Russo was returned to Long Creek after his arrest Feb. 27. It was unclear when he will be returned to Lewiston for a court appearance.

At Donald Morin’s Auburn apartment Sunday, Maine Drug Enforcement agents said they found 5.7 grams of crack, as well as Klonopin and Darvocet tablets in plastic sandwich bags. Klonopin is a depressant, Darvocet a narcotic painkiller.

Drug officials also said they confiscated a cell phone that rang several times while they were searching the Goff Street apartment.

“When the phone was answered by agents, most of the callers were seeking cocaine or crack,” MDEA Supervisor Gerry Baril wrote in a press release.

Donald and Tyler Morin are expected to appear in Lewiston District Court today for initial hearings. Police said Tyler Morin was on probation for a prior assault conviction. His father was on probation for a prior drug conviction, police said.
