OXFORD – Thomas H. Ryan III, 55, died peacefully at his home in Oxford, on March 15, after a brief illness.

He was born in Lewiston, on Sept. 5, 1949, the son of Thomas H. Ryan Jr., and Elinor (Packard) Ryan. He graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1968 and went on to the Piney Point Maritime Academy in Baltimore, Md., and Rock of Ages Monument School in Barre, Vt.

He started Ryan Monument Company in 1973 and spent the remainder of his career working primarily as a drilling and blasting contractor under Ryan Rock.

He was an avid sportsman and master Maine guide. He enjoyed mining, hunting, fishing and trapping, spending most of his free time at Moochers Camp in Oquossoc with his best friends and close family. He was a member of Oxford Lodge AF and AM of Norway.

He is survived by his mother, Elinor (Packard) Ryan; two daughters, Christine Allen and her husband, Robert, of South Paris and Saara Leduc and her husband, Kevin, of South Paris; adopted son, Jason “Jake” Ryan and his wife, Jen, of Poland; a sister, Gay (Ryan) Farnum and husband, Dennis, and their son, Casey R. Farnum of Oxford; a brother, E. Douglas Ryan of Stoneham; two sons, Thomas W. Ryan and Peter D. Ryan of Concord, N.H.; and three grandsons, Nicholas, Max, Jackson and a fourth one on the way.

He was predeceased by his father, Thomas H. Ryan Jr., on Feb. 16, 1980.
