WOODSTOCK – Selectmen completed plans for the annual town meeting by signing the official meeting warrant Tuesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, in the multipurpose room at the Woodstock Elementary School on Rumford Avenue.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield also announced that the town reports are in, and most have been delivered door-to-door by Inman Printing.

“Geof (printer Geof Inman) has delivered 500 copies,” said Maxfield, “which is most everyone except for a few places where he encountered dogs that weren’t very friendly and a few places where no one was home.”

He also said that copies are available at the town office if anyone did not get one.

In other business, selectmen decided they would study the possibility of building a parking lot across Route 26 in Bryant Pond for use by people attending baseball games at Whitman Field.

Cars parking along the heavily traveled state highway near the baseball complex have created a problem for years. The area being considered for parking is land that was donated to the town a few years ago by developer Gordon Brown.

“It would be a good thing if we could have a place where people could park somewhere besides on Route 26, and I’ve thought about that piece of land across the road for some time. I think we ought to take a look at it this spring and see if it can be leveled off and made available for people to use,” said Selectman Leon Poland.

Chairman Percy Monk said, “It wouldn’t be that much of a job to dig it out so people could park there, and I would say there would be room enough for 20 to 30 cars. I think it would be a good idea. Let’s take a look at it later this spring when the snow is gone and see what it would take.”

Selectman Steve Bies agreed with the plan, making the decision to conduct the study unanimous.

Maxfield told the board the Fire Department has submitted a grant application to the Galen Cole Family Foundation for funds to assist in the purchase of a thermal imaging camera.

He said that the unit costs between $15,000 and $20,000. If the application is approved, the department will have to come up with a small local match of $3,000.

“The money is available if the grant is OK’d,” said Maxfield.
