LISBON – Selectmen took no action, but agreed “conceptually” to a request that the town’s wastewater treatment plant accept “out of town discharge” from a proposed cheese factory at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.

Town Manager Curtis Lunt said the waste would consist of whey and other liquid byproducts from the cheese-making process. In order to build the factory, the Department of Environmental Protection requires a plan for the disposition of the waste. If Lisbon decides to accept, it was estimated that it could generate an estimated $10,000 to $12,000 in revenue.

In other business, a decision on a dangerous-building hearing, which had earlier been postponed so the owner’s attorney could be present, was again postponed.

Building owner Reggie Thiboutot testified that the town had caused the building to deteriorate by plowing snow against it. Also testifying was a neighbor who said the structure should be repaired or removed. The issue will be on the agenda for the next meeting on April 5, at which time it is expected a draft order for repair or removal will be presented and acted upon.

Blethen Street resident Sybilla Pettingill appeared before the board to request that the town adopt a community standards ordinance on pornography, which was referred to Lisbon Police Community Action Group for review.

In other business, the board voted to post weight limits on about a dozen town roads. No action was taken on a request that the town take over the cost of maintaining the 80-home Winter Park development sewage pump station and collection system. Also, an operations update by Earth Tech was given.
