LEWISTON – Area women are invited to register for the seventh annual “I’ve Got the Power” conference. The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave. It is sponsored by the Central Maine Coalition for Women and young women (ages 12 to adult) who are making career or educational plans and want to consider all their options.
The cost is $5 and preregistration is required. A tote bag of information, T-shirts, door prizes and lunch will be provided. A limited number of spaces are available. Interested women may call 755-5325 for a registration form.
Participants will be introduced to a variety of technology and trade careers as they work inside a computer and learn how to maintain it; see how to expand their ideas about building projects through drawings and plans; climb onto heavy construction equipment and guide the controls; use lab equipment to run robots and test circuits.
Other activities will focus on career information including salary, benefits, job outlook in Maine and educational requirements. Women who are working at nontraditional jobs will present their success stories through a panel discussion and working woman’s fashion show featuring hard hats, boots and tool belts.
For more information, contact Kathleen Harrison at Central Maine Community College, through e-mail, [email protected] or phone, 755-5325.
