FARMINGTON – Remembrance of the last week of Jesus’ life will begin with a Palm Sunday special worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 20, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church.

The service will begin with a festive procession of banners and palms. The congregation will then journey through Holy Week with Jesus through a dramatic reading of the Passion narrative from the Gospel of Matthew, concluding at the cross.

Henderson Memorial is an American Baptist Church, located at the corner of Main and Academy streets. Sunday school classes for preschool through adult are held at 9 a.m. each Sunday and newcomers are welcome. For more information, call Pastor Susan Crane at 778-2163.

Palm Sunday

FARMINGTON – Fairbanks Union Church, a Presbyterian Church, USA, will observe a Palm Sunday service starting at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 20, at the church on the Fairbanks Road.

The day will begin with the proclamation of the entrance into Jerusalem with shouts of “Hosanna in the Highest” as Jesus rides in triumph on a roadway laid with palms. But the mood of joy quickly turns to shouts of “crucify him – crucify him!” as the congregation reads the Passion story describing Jesus’ last days.

Sunday service

NEW PORTLAND – The New Portland Community Church and the North New Portland Community Church will observe a Palm Sunday service beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 20, at the New Portland Community Church. The service will include morning worship and procession of the Palms.

Holy Eucharist

WILTON – St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will hold the Holy Eucharist for the Palm Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday, March 20, at the church on High Street. The services will feature a procession with palm branches and the reading of the Passion gospel as a drama. Other special services are planned throughout Holy Week to help people enter through worship into the climatic events of Jesus’ life.
